Philippians 2:13–Song 5/40

Nov 13, 2018

I asked my kids a few years ago if they could recite some Bible verses. They could only get through a little bit of John 3:16, and I felt like a failure as a parent.

The truth is, I’ve helped them memorize verses for Sunday school before, but they haven’t retained any of them.  In fact, if I try to think of verses I’ve memorized as an adult, I haven’t retained any of them either.  I can only remember verses I’ve learned as a kid.

So I knew I had to do something, and it’s not anything new.  Same old methods my parents used to teach me things.  They put it to music.

I’ve put several Bible verses to music, and I don’t believe I’ll ever forget these verses.  I sing them over and over to my kids. As a songwriter, it doesn’t take too much talent to do this, and yet I believe putting Bible verses to music is some of my most important work.
